Announcement

Dear all,

I started this website in 2011, just a few months right before my university graduation. This blog helped me learn so many new skills, particularly photoshop and a bit of coding essential to decorate my blog.

What was originally a personal journal turned out to be a great reference to people who are interested in studying or living in South Korea. Despite being on hiatus for so many years already, my blog is living actively on its own. For a personal blog, I’m surprised to reach more than a hundred thousand visits 💙

While I wish to keep this blog, I had a difficult time acquiring a similar domain name for a self-hosted website – thus, I created a new domain from scratch – www.leavelearntravel.com .

I’ve moved to Sydney, Australia last year and intend to write about my new experiences here. If you are interested about information on studying or living in Korea, don’t worry – I’ve imported my most popular posts on my new blog:

As I close this blog, I wish to invite you to my new online space:

www.leavelearntravel.com

My new personal blog will talk about leaving once comfort zone, learning new skills, and of course, my favorite topic – travelling.

Once again, thank you so much for the support throughout these years and I hope to welcome you on the other side 😉

Cheers,

Splurk / Melanie 💙

About splurk.wordpress.com

It started out as an online journal of just about everything that happened in my life months before I graduated from college last 2011. Splurk hopes to publish entries that could help aspiring KGSP students, inspire others to explore various places around the world, and of course, to maintain from how I’ve started. A personal blog. A blog where I share my thoughts, opinion, rants, and victories in my journey for a good life. Splurk has now moved to leavelearntravel.com

  1. I was searching for a definition of the word splurk and came upon your site. I also have an interest in all things Korean, so it felt sort of serendipitous. Congratulations on passing your exam. I studied Korean for five years (as a dabbler only), so I know how challenging it can be.

I love your header image with the tourists and the map. Nicely done!

    • Sorry if my site wasn’t able to help you define the word splurk. Actually, I “made” this name when I signed up on a social networking site named Plurk.com. I wasn’t very creative that day so I just added an s on the webpage’s name and since then I have been using splurk in my other sns accounts. I am not sure if there is such a word, but for me it feels like an onomatopoeia.

Wow, five years for Korean language – you must have some burning passion for learning a language 😉 I hope you got something out of it. And thank you for the greeting 🙂

About the header, I actually made it for a Cover Photo contest organized by Korea Tourism Organization (KTO) last year. I didn’t win the contest because I lacked likes of Facebook; however, I got a consolation prize. So as not to put it to waste, I have been using it as my blog header for almost a year now. It is nice of you to appreciate it, thank you once again 🙂

  2. Hi Splurk~! ^^
Nice to meet you and your blog, ã…‹ã…‹ while i’m searching information for how to get the KGSP scholarship, I found your blog ^^ Firstly I’m envious you and all who can get that scholarship~~ it must be very difficult and competive! Secondly, I’m happy because I can meet more friend who also likes Korea ~~ I don’t know why but I’m always so excited when making friends with people who have a passion in Korea, ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹~ Hope we can be goods friends!!!~
Actually I want to apply for KGSP next year, but really confused now~~ it’s so competitive in my country ã… -ã…  What’s your major now? I want to apply for Korea Studies, but….. maybe I’m so unconfident in myself T_T Could you share some experience on preparing for KGSP??
Thank you so much~ I hope we can keep in touch and meet in Korea next year~~ =^o^=

  3. hi.I am so glad i got over your blog. i am willing to apply for kgps. but i have so many question, which answers i would like to get from somebody that passed all this process. Is there a way for us to speak privately online? like email? facebook?please! thank you.^^

    • Well, that’s a tough question! NIIED never told us why we passed the scholarship when we got it 🙂 Perhaps, you just have to have great confidence in yourself. You have to prove to these people that you deserve this scholarship – not by intelligence only, I mean, hey, all the scholars applying for this are smart or smarter than you.

About the study plan, do a little research. Other scholarships provide formats on how to make it. Basically, you have to write what you intend to study when you are here. What will be your study’s focus. What area are you going to master. Etcetera.

      Goodluck 🙂
